Cadaver Search in Nottingham
On Tuesday October 23rd and Thursday October 25th, members of GRS were called to assist Nottinghamshire Police.
Gavin Roberts with his Cadaver Detection Dog Gelert, David Jones (Team Leader) and Emma Whittle travelled down to Nottinghamshire to help in the search for a missing person.
James Brodie, the person in question was involved in the robbery of a Nottingham jewellery store back in 2003 in which the owner was murdered. Since the robbery/murder no one has known the whereabouts of Mr Brodie.
Based on information received by the Police, it was believed that he himself had been murdered and his body disposed. We were called down to a quicksand pit near a fish farm on the 23rd October where we assisted Mick Swindells (who trained our cadaver detection team).
Nothing was discovered at that site and on the 25th October we were called to a farm were 2 possible grave locations had been highlighted.
Gavin and Gelert searched the areas supported by forensic archaeologists from Birmingham University and the Forensic Search Advisory Group. As well as using our services the investigation team also acquired the services of Stratascan an organisation who use ground penetrating radar to look for any anomalies under ground.
Again no significant find were made but both days proved to be excellent experience and a chance for the team members involved to put their training into practice.
The Images below give you an idea of what we were doing.
